No wonder people don't want to talk to an agent!
Hi everyone,
Ross Quintana of Team Quintana Real Estate here, Today I want to talk about why people don't want to contact an agent when looking for a home. You know as a professional in this business I know one of the biggest mistakes buyers and sellers make is to not find a professional agent soon enough in the process. It's like those home shows where the homeowner tries to do a big remodel and gets stuck half way through and can't finish it and a contractor comes in and bails them out. This is how many people handle their real estate transactions. They want to be left alone for the most part and end up grabbing ahold of an agent at the very last second to help them out.
The main problem with this is that by then they have made many mistakes or are set on a home not having had a professional show them everything and help them know they found the best one. Not getting all of the tools to make sure you know what your looking for and that the home you find is the right fit. People make choices based on emotion, they may have lost out on a home they liked and then pick the first thing close kind of like rebounding from a relationship. Your agent is there to help you like a friend not get into something just because you felt like it would work. The key is finding an agent who is really looking out for your interests even when you may want to make a bad decision.
The problem is that so many agents are so dressed up to get your business sometimes it's hard to see around the dog and pony show. I always say everyones brochure looks good and things are not always as they seem. because of the hordes of agents shoving themselves on people with hype advertising it's hard for the public to know who to choose and the last thing they want to do is throw themselves like a piece of meat into the pen for the hungry salesmen to fight over.
Solution. The fact is you will hurt yourself if you don't get an agent soon in the process. You have to buck up and talk with some agents and find the one that will help you. This means you have to be upfront saying I'm looking for an agent but don't plan on commiting to anyone until I have talked to a few people. By saying this you should weed out the ones too busy for you, or to aggressive. It's funny I've had people who weren't interested in my services and yet I helped them without being pushy and they later became some of my most loyal clients. We lead with service and are upfront, educating the public so they can make choices they feel comfortable with even if that means it's not us.
